Managing Business X-Factors
About 50% of business failure, start-up to mature companies, is attributed to one or more X-Factors. What are X-Factors? X-Factors are those business elements that have a vital but difficult to measure impact on performance and profitability. X-Factors include: Strategy Formulation, Planning & Resource Sequencing, Teaming, Stakeholder Management, Scalable Organization Design, Employer of Choice Culture, and Transition Management.
Most companies do not have an efficient process in place for X-Factor management. This can lead to stalled growth, slow-to-market with products and services, and a variety of other problems that effect productivity and profitability...creating undo internal focus. Companies that excel in X-Factor management have a statistical advantage over the competition and in overall performance.
If you're a skilled entrepreneur it's likely that you are not equally skilled at X-Factor management. Why? Because the traits that make up a successful entrepreneur (Good Business Instinct, Passion, and Drive) tend to create blinds spots in that same entrepreneur when building and growing the organizational machinery (X-Factors) necessary to support commercialization of new products and services.
The good news is that there is a lot that can be done to improve X-Factor management with a minimal time investment. Additional information and a variety of free tools are available on this website to support that effort.
